IMPORTANT: PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION WHEN UPGRADING THE DISK FIRMWARE AND/OR DISK SHELF FIRMWARE
After upgrading to NSVTL OS 5.2.3, if the disk firmware and/or disk shelf firmware in use is older than the version supplied with the release, an action is generated stating that the disk firmware and/or disk shelf firmware needs to be updated. Action code 3400 (The states on the disks are not up to date.) is a normal message generated during disk firmware and/or disk shelf firmware upgrades that usually clears in 5 minutes.
Before performing the upgrade, you MUST do the following:
Make a backup copy of the VTL configuration by saving your VTL configuration to a file.
(Go to Miscellaneous > Configuration Management > Save Configuration in the VTL GUI)Do NOT schedule any backup restores, cloning, import/export activities during the entire upgrade process.
Unload all virtual tapes from drives and wait 10 minutes before proceeding.
Do NOT perform any other tasks on the VTL while the upgrade is in progress either from a separate admin session or using the CLI. The VTL should be idle during the upgrade process.
Do NOT interrupt the power to the VTL during the disk firmware and/or disk shelf firmware upgrade process.
Note:
When the firmware upgrades are complete, perform these steps only if all the RAID groups are NOT back to normal after 10 minutes:
